Tatra tea (until the year 2007 known as Tatransky caj) is a series of herbal-tea liqueurs produced since the year 2003 (under the leadership of Jan Semenak) by the family company Karloff, established in the year 2002, with its seat in the small town of Kezmarok in the Spiš region.

The history of "Tatra tea" is long and goes back to the times of outlaws hiding in the High Tatras. It was they who drank a special drink sweetened with honey, made from a mixture of herbs, tea, spirit, moonshine, garlic and tallow. This tradition has survived among the inhabitants of the Slovak mountains to this day, and its fullest reflection is precisely the Tatra Mountains.

The first and oldest liqueur in Tatra tea's portfolio is the classic herbal-tea version of the Original one with a strength of 52% ABV. Then the herbal tea collection was developed with liqueurs based on coconut, citrus, peach, forest fruit and cinchona, bottled with a power of 22% ABV (coconut) to 72% ABV (chinewood). Two more collections were also created - based on fruit (or cream or flowers) and tea (bottled with a strength of 17% ABV to 67% ABV) and two herbal liqueurs - digestif and bitter with a strength of 35% ABV each.

All products from the Tatra tea’s portfolio are made of high-quality teas (white, red, green and black) from the Indian region of Assam. Then the herbs are added, including St. John's wort, lemon balm, mint, wormwood, and milk thistle). The whole thing is macerated for 6 weeks in neutral alcohol and filtered. Still after that, fruit extracts and distillates are added, and the intermediate is matured in steel vats for 8 weeks. Finally, there is a second filtration, dilution of the solution with crystal clear mountain water, sweetening with sugar syrup, and filling into the iconic thermos-like bottles (which appeared in 2009).
