In the year 1775, Ludwig XVI gave permission to open the Ginu distillery in the Dunkerque Citadel. The distillery operated dynamically and was awarded the title of "Royal Distillery" for 20 years. During this period, nearly 12 stills worked there, creating the first liquor of this type in France. The world-famous Master Distiller Alexandre Gabriel decided in the year 1989 to recreate the taste of craftly produced gins from a bygone era. Gin Citadelle is a French brand of gin that saw the light of day for the first time in the year 1980. It is manufactured by Maison Ferrand in Cognac.

One of the secrets of the production of this gin is 19 botanical herbal and root ingredients from around the world and distillation (12 hours) in copper cauldrons (25 hectoliters of Charentais) with open fire, which produces a character with a hint of juniper and reminiscent of a spring garden. Fresh and delicately floral with a hint of jasmine, honeysuckle and cinnamon. However, after a few minutes, it shows its stronger side with a strong aroma of anise, paradise grain and cinnamon.
