Choya

The company was founded in the year 1914 in the Japanese city of Osaka with its headquarters in Habikino, where the first trials in viticulture began. In the year 1924, the company began producing wines and brandy, and in the year 1959, the production of its flagship product under the name Choya Umeshu began. These are liqueurs made from the Nanko-ume fruit.

Ume is a Japanese apricot – often incorrectly called a plum. Although its taste and aroma are closely related to the plum we know, the two fruit families should not be confused. Nanko-ume, Wakayama region, produces liqueurs called Umeshu, the base of which may be wine, although it is not always the case. Umeshu is a traditional Japanese liqueur made using the same methods as our native liqueurs. Ume fruit is macerated in Japanese Shochu alcohol until the fruit gives off its full flavor and aroma.
